Culmination Date

Posted on

Happy Spring,

Just a few things for the good of the order.

  1.  This week is project 2nd wind.  It is a food drive through Oregon Food Bank that collects food specifically at this time of the year because they are not all out of their holiday donations.  Our class is teamed up with our buddies and we set a goal of 400lbs of food.
  2. We are in a spelling contest this Friday.  It is a district wide event and we will be participating as a class.  This was not a mandatory event so some people chose not to participate.  I have given them a list of words to study and you can click below to see it.  Spelling Contest Practice – Google Docs
  3. Ugh politics!  Will you have a talk with your kiddos about not talking politics at school.  While most of us share similar views, they are not everyone’s view point and there is no way for 3rd graders to discuss it without fighting about it.  Come to think of it, it seems like there is no way for adults to discuss it without fighting about it.
  4. Brandi and I have set a culmination date.  Friday, March 18th at 1:30.  We will all meet together in the cafeteria, share some foods (more on that in a minute) watch the arrival and then head back to our classroom to go through our stuff.  If you want to take your child home after that you are more than welcome.

-For this culmination we ask students to bring something to share from their own family background.  We recognize that some families are deeply connected with their own history and some families are not.  We also recognize that some families have more time than others.  A sheet will be sent home with students that will indicate what they want to bring to the culmination.  You may be super into Great Aunt May’s chocolate chip cookie recipe or you may be a chips and salsa kind of family.  We just ask that you contribute something that means something to your family.  It does not need to be a crazy amount of work for moms or dads.

Valentine’s Day

Posted on

Hey guys,

Valentine’s Day is coming up next week and I allow you to put in your valentines whatever you choose. We will have a little “party” decorate bags and exchange valentines. You should feel no pressure to make or buy valentines. It works well to just bring blank valentines. But if your kiddo is super interested in writing names on them here is the list.

Abby, Allen, Avery, Bridget, Carson, Cody, Ethan, Gabe, Halle, Hannah, Hugo, Isha, Jack M,      Jack N, Lucy H, Lucy W, Lilly, Mara, Mateo, Murphy, Nikita, Oli, Oona, Penny, Ruby, Shane, Sage, Terin, Westyn, Xander

Also we have started lunch duty. They have been amazing. They have great attitudes about helping out. Not all jobs in the kitchen are super exciting but they have treated each one with the same level of enthusiasm. I appreciate it as does Patty.
