New Year, New News
Hello,
Thank You
Firstly, I realized that my holiday thank you post never got posted. Ugh…I am the worst. I would like you to know that I so appreciate all of the holiday gifts that I received. It was so wonderful to feel appreciated. Each one, large and small, was beautiful and made me feel so appreciated.
Question for you
Brandi and I were talking about the money we received from student treasures and thinking about doing something I have always wanted to do since I moved to 3rd grade. Go on the Willamette River Jet Boat. It goes under most of the Portland Bridges and I think we would get a view of Portland that we rarely get to see. It’s those blue boats on the waterfront. I was just wondering what you guys think of that idea. Go ahead and comment to let me know. Are you thinking, Yes! Can I come? or are you thinking No, No a thousand times NO!
Speaking of Field Trips
We laze about in the first 2/3 of the year going no further than Berrydale Park. But things do kick into gear in the last 1/3 of the year. The first field trip that is scheduled for April is the play Edward Tulane. Both classes read the book last year and I think it is going to be really fun. We will take a bus. I also scheduled Providence Health and Fitness Days (I haven’t gotten a confirmed date yet but it at the end of May). It is with the Timbers at Providence Park! We will ride the Max. Then of course there is the World Famous 3rd Grade Portland Tour. On that trip we will ride the Max, the Streetcar and the Tram. Also we will culminate our Portland Storyline on Mt. Tabor. We will hike up to Mt. Tabor. Which you may notice that I take no trips that involve you guys as drivers. Which is awesome because it means that everyone who wants to come can come even if they are not comfortable driving. However, one draw back is that we are often at the mercy of our public transportation. Last year on the way home on the Max train we encountered not one but 2 medical emergencies and we had evacuate the train and wait for another 2 times. So these are all things that are coming up (not in the nearest of futures) that you should keep on the back burner. You will get a permission slip and a detailed itinerary closer to the dates.
Tech Time
It is time for us to venture into the Computer lab. It is cool especially because at the end of the year they will be typing their own articles for the newspapers! We will be learning mouse skills, typing, the clicks (right, left, double, hover). If you want to look at what we are doing you can go to my other website and check it out at any time. room10css@wordpress.com
Well I have officially taken all of the time you have for newsletters for now, I will write more soon.
Allison
Happy New Year!
Hello All,
I hope you had a wonderful break. I was ready for Monday, my lunch stuff was packed up. I had prepped dinner stuff for the week. My bags were all packed and then we got that little extended break. I will admit I still had more stuff to do so I was kept busy at my house today.
Some exciting news. The publisher of our book has awarded our class a $600 dollar grant! I just got a check in my mailbox. It was crazy. I have thought of a few things that we might be able to do with the money but none of my ideas are all that exciting. I will open it up to the students, but I thought I would open it up to you guys as well. Do you have any great ideas for places to go, things to do, something that would benefit everyone in the classroom? What do you think I should point the money at? Go ahead and leave your ideas in the comments. I’ll ask the kids as well and maybe they will have the great idea.
I hope I see you tomorrow!
Allison
