Kind of a big one today but super important!

Walking Field Trip on Tuesday

Matt is going to take the kids to the overpass to the Max station on Tuesday.  They are going to take data by counting cars.  If a few people could come a little early for pick up and go with them that would be great.  They are going to go at 1:20 and they will be back by 2:30.  I’m sorry this is so short notice but Matt let me know he needed people.  It’s only about a 1/4 mile from school so it’s not a long haul.

The other field trip

A while back I told you about a field trip we were going to take in February to Mercy Corps.  We are still going to take it but they have bumped our trip back to March.  The date is still TBD because they have not set up the thing we are going to see.

Standardized Testing

If you are interested in the opt out movement. Please visit Oregon Save our Schools  If you are concerned about this you should talk to me in person.  I can only talk about it at school if you ask.  Please ask. You are the one who gets to make choices for your child.

Book Groups

I only have two people who want to be a part of book groups so far.  I am going to be putting them together next week in the hopes of starting in February.  If you want to take a novel group please let me know ASAP, so I can get you on the list.

Report Cards

I have just finished report cards, right before I wrote this.  The specialist will get a chance to put in their grades and then they will get printed and put in backpacks the week of the 9th.  I was a little limited on space for comments this year so if you have any questions please let me know.

Last thing I swear

I have changed the way that I send out the link to this posting.  I used to do it via my iPad but now I am using the iPad in class for some spelling activities.  I wiped the iPad and with it went all of the emails before I even thought of that possibility.  So please talk about this posting, especially the SBAC part, so if people are not getting it they can know it and then let me know.

Allison

Thank You!

Oh guys, I wrote a thank you note for my lovely Holiday gift and then I forgot to post it.  I found it in my drafts folder today.

So here I go again.  Better late than never (right?)

The gift you guys gave me was amazing.  It was packed in this beautiful little vintage suit case and it was so beautiful.  It was so thoughtful and I love all the little things inside.  It made me feel so loved and appreciated.

Thank you so much.

Allison

Welcome Back! Very important request from Matt inside

Hello All,

I hope your break was restful and fun.  I had a super break.  For the first time in years I didn’t have to travel anywhere.  I had 16 days of uninterrupted glory!

Request for Science

Next Tuesday our class will go to Matt’s class for science.  He wrote me this email today and hopes that you guys can help him out with their project.

Third-graders will be constructing their own plankton on Tuesday, 1/13.  We need “stuff,” like corks, film canisters, feathers, and other things that float, sink or swim.  If you would like to contribute anything to this plankton lab, please send it into either Allison’s room or Matt’s room

Thanks,  Matt

So hopefully we can collect some cool stuff so they have a variety to choose from.

Reading Groups

It is that time of year!  I need some volunteers to head up literature circles.  It will work something like an adult book group.  Each week you will meet and agree to read to a certain part of the book.  Each member of the group will have a small job to do in order to move and focus the conversation.  It is really fun.  Reading the book along with them is great but it is not required.  They also like it when you do one of the jobs, but again not required.  You can come by any day of the week, in the afternoon.  They will be in half hour blocks and I am being a little vague because I am hoping to move my daily 5 to the very end of the day, but there are other scheduling considerations so I can’t tell you exactly just yet.   If you would be willing to do 2 groups and take up both 1/2 slots please let me know.

Students who passed the end of the year bench mark will be a part of these groups.  Unless you tell me otherwise, I will assume you want to be with your kid.  No judgement if you don’t.  Some parents and kids don’t work that great together and that is ok.  But there are also a couple of other factors that go into grouping.  It is possible that your kiddo is participating in a group with me.  Their group will already have a leader and so they cannot have another one.  Also if I only get volunteers from one level/interest group, some of them will have to be together and they only need one grown up.  I have always found a way to accommodate everyone since I have taught 3rd grade so I’m sure we can work it out this time.  So let me know ASAP if you can volunteer and give some extra attention to those students who are doing great in school and deserve to have an adult pay close attention to them in a small group.

Have a great weekend,

Allison
